About coach Mackinnon

Founded in [Year], Coach Bob MacKinnon Basketball Skills Academy is dedicated to helping youth find the joy in playing and learning about basketball. Our goal is to provide more than court coaching services and a sports outlet for youth. We aim to teach kids what it takes to be a champion and be a participating team member.

Bob MacKinnon's coaching career has spanned over thirty years of successful coaching and scouting at all levels of basketball, notably at some of the most prestigious and respected collegiate and professional programs in the United States.

At the collegiate level, Coach MacKinnon began his head coaching career at the US Merchant Marine Academy where he led his team to two NCAA tournament appearances and also earned Coach of the Year honors for the Skyline Conference. Coach MacKinnon has also been an Assistant Coach at some of the most elite college basketball programs in the country including UNC-Chapel Hill and Notre Dame.

At the professional level, Coach MacKinnon has excelled at coaching players to take their game to the next level and achieve their dreams of playing in the NBA. His coaching stints with four different NBA D-League teams (most recently the D-League affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers) resulted in three different division titles as well as a D-League championship title. He is the all time D-League coaching leader in NBA Call-ups with 17.

Coach MacKinnon is a very passionate coach because he cares about the players that he mentors and strives to make every player, regardless of age or level, the best basketball player they can possibly be. He resides in Chapel Hill, NC with his wife, Suzanne, and their four sons, Bobby Jr., Matthew, Brendan, and Ryan.
